This site (with which I am associated) offers a knowledge platform for a specialised community - that of land governance. One of its main features is its use of linked open data which supports interoperability between platforms. That means that meta-data and content can be automatically exchanged with other sites using the same standards. This allows individual sites to concentrate on their own priorities and audiences without wasting time and money duplicating overlapping material. For example the LP regualarly and auutomatically exchanges content with its regional partner in SE Asia, Open Data Mekong. Thus whilst the Land Portal can function as a standalone website, its design and philosophy works to develop the information eco-system of its field. Something it also contributes by developing a specialised and heterogenuous land vocabulary (see Vocabularies).
Another feature of the Land Portal is its support for interaction on the site. It regualrly works with partners to host on-line discussions and webinars.
