Biodiversity

This is a mock up of a possible layout of individual topic pages to provide further detail to the topics (concepts) displayed in the topic maps.  It provides further information about the concept, links to other established uses of it.  It organises and then links to material you host which relate to it.  This can either be general or link specifically to other 'products' such as Learning Pathways (either as a whole or to constiuent modules), exhibitions etc. Also, if you want, it cam link to relevant external organisations, datasets or other or resources which you wish to signpost. Everything about this page - its look and its content can be absolutely your decision.

DEFINITION AND SCOPE NOTES (Agrovoc)

The variability among living organisms from all sources including, inter alia, terrestrial, marine and other aquatic ecosystems and the ecological complexes of which they are part; this includes diversity within species, between species and of ecosystems. Diversity indices are measures of richness (the number of species in a system); and to some extent, evenness (variances of species’ local abundance). They are therefore indifferent to species substitutions which may, however, reflect ecosystem stresses (such as those due to high fishing intensity). (en)
