Abstract
This book introduces and illustrates the concept of speculative design which, as one of its reviewers puts it 'is a vibrant practice of using design to materialize and experiment with alternate worldviews and futures'. It goes beyond traditional concepts of design as relating to objects, giving considerable attention to the develpment of new ideas but there is less on how this applies to social processes. Chapter 4, 'Consuming Monsters: big, perfect, infectious' discusses the role of art and design in producing and communicating scientific research.
