IKM, along with the EPSRC funded bridging the Digital Divide research programme and the Judge Institute at Cambridge University, is holding a small workshop on 17th and 18th of September 2009 focussing on the tensions between emergence and a desire for predictability in the design, management and funding of development related research. It is hoped this will be first stage in a process which will discuss lessons learned from past efforts at cross-disciplinary or participatory research, especially in the ICT4D field and promote new practices in research and design whioch are more supportive of iteration, participation and emergence.
